Rome students Rogelio Cadena, Claudia Ansorena, Alyssa Atkinson and Smitha Vasan proudly represented the U-SoA in the building of the Sou Fujimoto Installation “Energy,” in Rome during spring break.

The U-SoA Rome Program was invited to be part of an international team of designers selected by Margherita Guccione, director of the architecture division of the MAXXI, the National Museum of the 21st Century Arts, to construct Fujimoto’s imagined built environment.

Established in Tokyo, Japan in 2000, Sou Fujimoto Architects are a Tokyo-based group of over 30 architects, designers, craftsmen and thinkers all dedicated to pursuing their craft, operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, research and innovation. The firm has designed houses, temporary installations, medical and cultural facilities that have been recognized as vanguard designs throughout the world. Architecture is ubiquitous for Sou Fujimoto Architects.

The MAXXI thanked the Director of the Rome, Carmen Guerrero, for enabling the participation of such “intelligent, curious and motivated students”! Dean Rodolphe el-Khoury and Guerrero met with Guccione in February to discuss future partnerships with this prestigious cultural venue in Rome.
